JVSI is a versatile underground utility contractor that has the ability to tackle the toughest challenges in the underground construction arena. JVSI is a contractor for sewer, water and storm drainage systems. With our experience in the installation of storm water filtration systems we have contributed to cleanup of the Chesapeake Bay; trapping motor oils and other pollutants from parking lot runoff before they enter our watersheds. Our MissionTo Continue to build a profitable, safety conscious, family-run underground utility construction company, that provides a quality product with a "Can Do", "Work Like a Pro" attitude.
Company ProfileJohn Vitale Sr. was a master plumber when he started JVSI in 1959. Initially the customer base was within the confines of the District of Columbia, over time it grew to encompass Maryland and Virginia . In the 1980's the company's focus shifted from plumbing contracting to the utility marketing sector where JVSI's background in mechanical contracting provided a unique capability that other underground contractors were unable to provide. Today JVSI is one of the premier underground utility contractors in the Washington Metropolitan area. It is currently directed by the sons, John Jr., Frank and Thomas Vitale. Today JVSI features a workforce of approximately 65 employees, with the ability to run 9 pipe crews simultaneously. JVSI has established itself as a premier underground utility contractor in the region, by working on projects ranging from steam tunnels to major highway projects. The company is licensed in Maryland, Virginia and District of Columbia and is an approved contractor for such agencies as the Virginia Department of Transportation, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, the DC water and Sewer Authority and the Federal Government. With a doubling of manpower since 1998 the company has found it advantageous to own and service its own heavy equipment. Being a family-run enterprise, JVSI has been able to attract and retain key personnel, a feat other contractors find difficult to match. The company offers an attractive benefits package to all of its employees; a key ingredient in maintaining a family atmosphere in the workforce. Today there is increased emphasis on safety training in the work place and JVSI maintains a full-time safety director.
